I weighed about 9 stone back then Ivan as I didn't really drink lager until I was 21 and took my running and swimming very very seriously.

20 years on, 4 stone heavier and I now instead take my lager drinking very very seriously ;o)

Done loads of Marathons / Half Marathons over the years, But I only got into the Park run thing this year when asked to run with the Grandson son and my Son at Bracknell, I couldn't believe how big these are, I have now run my local Park runs at Maldon and Burnham and also Clacton,
I though that the bloke who created the idea was awarded something, an amazingly simple idea that has caught on.

After smashing in a 17 minute run in the city of London race 20 years ago it was time to retire.

Well it was time to retire when I done it again 5 years later after properly finding alcohol and the time had gone to 30 mins.

Was out for a walk on Sunday and came across hundreds of people doing the one in Shoebury.

Might start doing it and a good idea.

I do the Tonbridge one regularly, quite a nice course. Very busy though, gets about 500-550 and some of the corners are quite sharp. The Ilford one is easy, all pavement. The Harrow Lodge one is tough I think, running on grass is challenging when you're used to road running.

PB is 21:34, got that a few years ago.

I think it's a great idea - I've volunteered too when been injured or saving myself for a bigger run

I do theHove park run , got a PB of 23:35 at the weekend.
Not bad for a 48 year old former coke head

I'm fairly new to it, have run the Reigate and Tilgate 5k's. Tilgate certainly the easier course. Amazing that you can take part in these for free!

Re: Saturday 5K ParkRun
I've been doing these since 2009 and last month, after being stuck on 49 for months, finally managed to make it to 50. I ran that one with my mate's beagle pacing me. I was sure the dog pulled me round what is a hilly course but was unsure by how much, until the following week when I was 90 seconds slower. A neighbour of mine, in her 70s, recorded 28 mins last weekend and a 79 per cent age related score. They are a great idea and I really enjoy them, although, certainly around my times, it becomes a race, rather than a run.

Done the Colchester one a few times which gets well attended. Running up the hill in Castle Park twice is a fucker though.

Ran Kingston a couple of times. Best I did was 21:25.

The kids do the junior bushy park one from time to time. There are some fast kids in that one!

Re: Saturday 5K ParkRun
Been doing these every year since 2005 when it was just the one event, the Bushy Park Time Trial. Seen it grow massively.

Done over 60 different ones. Getting on for 200 events now.

20m 52s is my best. The whole thing is so popular now that PB's are probably a thing of the past down a combination of age and losing between 15 to 25 seconds in the first km of many events due to 'heavy traffic'.

Highest finish was 2nd, would have been first if not for the only wheelchair athlete I've ever seen attend one...

Fast courses in and around London / Essex:-

Dulwich
Barking
Hackney Marshes
Kingston

Tough courses-

Hadleigh
Brentwood
Croydon
Hockley Woods

Brilliant idea, the bloke who started it deserves his CBE.
I'd say it has been a massive influence in helping me to pack in smoking permanently.

Harrow Lodge in Hornchurch is the best one I've done.

Re: Saturday 5K ParkRun
I do the Romford Raphael park one. Easy to get set up online and a welcoming environment. All abilities are there, I've done about 4and I come about 150 out of 200 but it doesn't matter. I'm just trying to improve my own personal time.
You get an email after the run with all your times on it etc
This weekend they have pacers so I'm going to try and stick with the 30 minute one to break my PB.

It's really good motivation if you are coming back to running after a few years off and a few stone on.

Don't train or take it seriously. The Harlow One is really hard very hilly. St Abans very flat and easy. Best time 21.50. Heard Gunpowder is decent for a fast time

Re: Saturday 5K ParkRun
Doing regular training with a running club certainly helps. Intervals and that sort of thing. But the good thing about parkrun is that it doesn't matter how good you are, which is why they don't refer to them as races. It's all about trying to achieve personal goals and achieved in an inclusive and friendly environment. I absolutely love it (though I sound like Kevin Keegan there!)
